Car written test: Signs and general knowledge

This is the broadest category. It covers level crossings, compulsory insurance, eco-driving, special weather and driver ethics, plus many questions on recognising signs and road markings. When a level-crossing bell is ringing or the flashing warning light is on, stop before the stop line even if the barrier has not come down yet. At a crossing with no attendant, barrier, bell or flashing signal, stop, look and listen 3 to 6 metres from the track, and cross only when there is no train in either direction. If your vehicle is stuck on the track, press the crossing emergency button first and then try to push the vehicle clear; when a train approaches, everyone must run away from the crossing quickly.
